Fade in . . . Miss Wilde’s kitchen.

Lomax and Best come running to the back door. Lomax stares out into the darkness.

LOMAX: There they go! Looks like a professional getaway—

BEST: Lock’s been shot open from outside.

LOMAX: By God, it’s happened! Right here, under our noses . . . ! Best, find that damned squad car—if it isn’t on the job already—and get it moving. Send a call out—black four-door saloon, number unknown, heading Croydon way. Fat lot of good it’ll do, but—

BEST: Right.

He hurries out by the back door. Lomax turns to see Quatermass and Briscoe crouching over the body of the photographer. Pressmen are crowding forward into the kitchen.
